The management of taxpayer dollars is one of the greatest responsibilities of the Commissioner’s Court. Therefore, the establishment and maintenance of budget policy is critical to ensure County officials protect public interests and promote citizens’ confidence in County government.
The Budget Officer is responsible for preparing a county budget for the fiscal year. In preparing or monitoring the budget, the budget officer may require the county auditor or any other district, county, or precinct officer of the county to provide any information necessary for the budget officer to properly prepare or monitor the budget. The budgets must be carefully itemized to make possible a comparison of the proposed expenditures with the expenditures of the preceding year.
In addition, the Commissioner’s Court annually adopts a Budget Order which outlines the overall aspects of the annual budget.
